It supports both early-stage and post-revenue businesses with workspace, business development support, equity-based financing, digital infrastructure, mentorship, and access to international opportunities.
SPARC operates as an institutional co-founder, helping ventures survive market entry and scale successfully.
How does SPARC Innovation Space support entrepreneurs?
Support includes fully furnished office space, investment from MWK 5 million to over MWK 100 million depending on stage and need, weekly coaching, monthly masterclasses, enterprise-grade digital infrastructure, mentorship, peer collaboration, alumni access, demo days, conferences, and partnership opportunities.
Who is eligible to apply?
The programme is open to innovative and impactful enterprises with a viable business model. Applicants should be registered as a for-profit enterprise in Malawi, or commit to register within 3 months for the Incubation track.
- Founders aged 18-35 are prioritised.
- The venture should solve a clear local challenge with scalable potential.
- Applicants should be willing to work from the Innovation Space in Lilongwe, with hybrid options available for those outside Lilongwe.
- The venture should demonstrate social impact and be open to equity partnership.
Acceleration applicants must also have a live product or service, market traction, and a validated revenue model or unit economics.
Can a new company or business idea apply?
Yes, new companies and early-stage ideas may apply for the Incubation track if they have a defined concept and a clear problem statement. A prototype, MVP, or well-researched business plan is helpful.
For the Acceleration track, applicants must already have a launched product or service and demonstrated customer traction.
Which sectors are prioritised?
SPARC Innovation Space is open to all sectors, but strongly encourages ventures addressing real local needs with scalable solutions. Priority areas include agribusiness and agro-processing, renewable energy and climate tech, manufacturing and value addition, technology and digital solutions including EdTech and HealthTech, and FinTech or financial inclusion.

Who assesses and selects the ventures?
Selection is done by an independent Investment Panel made up of local and international experts from entrepreneurship, impact, business, investment, and financing backgrounds. The implementation team and partners are not involved in the final selection of programme participants.
What does equity-based financing mean?
SPARC invests cash and support into the business in exchange for a percentage of ownership. This makes SPARC a partner whose success is linked to the venture's success.
Under the Venture Studio model, SPARC may acquire ownership stakes of up to 25%, depending on the investment amount, venture stage, support required, and agreed valuation.
What is the Venture Studio model?
In a Venture Studio, SPARC acts as an institutional co-founder. Beyond funding, SPARC provides hands-on support such as technical assistance, legal and accounting support, technology development, market access, investor readiness, and strategic guidance.
